Making Virtual Connections

Spring may be wedding season, but with Valentine’s Day, February is the month for love. And love is big business, especially online (and I’m not talking about porn – which is a whole other online industry with huge profits).

40 million Americans use online dating services; that's about 40 percent of our entire U.S. single-people pool. You’ve probably seen the TV commercials for online dating services like Match.com and eHarmony. Just type “online dating” into Google and you’ll get 284 million results.

9 Best Practices for Improving the Bottom Line of Your Relationship

Dr. John Curtis has a background in both business consulting and marriage therapy. It seems inevitable that he would combine the two into a recipe for marital success. Dr. John Curtis penned "The Business of Love" to save the most important business venture anyone will ever delve into--marriage.

I know a happily married couple that apply their business consulting skills to their marriage. Each year they have a "planning session" where they go to a nice vacation spot with flip charts and markers in hand and set their goals for the upcoming year. They return from this annual ritual refreshed and motivated, ready to move forward into the year together.

10 +1 Things to Make Me LOVE Your Business Email

I ran across this blog post by Liz Strauss on making business email communication better and absolutely loved it. Since I didn't think I could say it any better (direct and to the point), I thought I'd include it here. Whether you're the sender or the receiver, it's definately worth reading. -- Teri

As with everything in business, email is about execution and helping out the other person. Anyway you can make my life easier — in this case organize my email — makes you my email hero. Make it harder and I duck when I see your email coming. Here are 10 + 1 ways to make me love your business email.

1. Don’t take away my generosity by expecting things. If you email me for the first time, do what you can to solve your own problem. Find out who I am before you ask me to do something for you. Don’t write as though I spend my time waiting for your email to come. I work for a living. This is the single biggest problem — via phone call and email — I found freelancers had in all of my years of publishing.

2. Always allow me to unsubscribe. If there are sensitive souls involved in a project, let’s decide together who will be included in receiving what. I’ll be grateful for the chance to opt out of emails that I don’t need.
