Your Email Address
Promote your web site everytime you give out your email address. Make sure your email address is @yourdomain. Stop promoting AOL, Comcast, or Gmail and start promoting your business. You'll also look more professional and credible whenever you hand out your business card or brochure.
Don't forget: your outgoing email address should also be @yourdomain so that every email you send has your professional email address on it.
Signing Up for Affiliate Accounts
If you're thinking about signing up as an affiliate or reseller for someone else's product or service, there are a couple of things you need to be aware of. Many companies have specific requirements for their affiliates or resellers to be approved. In general, the web site must already be live and must have a certain level of activity. I know this seems like already having work experience when you apply for your first job. Some also expect you to have sales within the first 6-12 months or your account will be closed.
Not all companies have these strict requirements, so your best bet is to read the terms of service agreement, apply to more than one company, and don't get discouraged if you're denied by some. You can usually apply again later.
Flash Video Clips
Adding video clips using Flash can be a great way to enhance your visitor's experience, but be careful. Give visitors the option of stopping the video, or, better yet, whether or not to watch the video in the first place. And any time you're using audio, allow visitors an easy way to mute the sound. You never know where they may be viewing your site and who else could be listening. Don't upset them by compromising their privacy.
